Green Day will premiere their brand-new video for "Oh Love" Wednesday night (August 15) on MTV, but that's not the only bit of news we've got to pass along to you today.
Because Green Day have also just been announced as performers at the 2012 MTV Video Awards, joining an ever-growing list of stars that already includes Alicia Keys, One Direction and Pink.
When Green Day take the stage at Staples Center in Los Angeles on September 6, they'll be doing so for the fifth time — a mark that trails only Madonna's seven VMA performances — and it will be the first time they've played music from their upcoming trio of albums on television.
They've also made a habit of cleaning up at the show itself, winning a total of 11 Moonmen, including six for their "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" clip, which took home Video of the Year honors at the 2005 VMAs.
But before they get to the big show, there's the matter of the "Oh Love" video premiere, which takes place Wednesday at 7:49 p.m. ET on MTV as part of "MTV First: Green Day." Billie Joe, Mike and Tre will then stick around to answer fan-submitted questions in a 30-minute interview to follow on MTV.com.
So, to recap, tune in tonight for "Oh Love's" world premiere, then make sure to catch Green Day on stage at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards, airing live from Staples Center in Los Angeles on Thursday, September 6 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
