Jazz and soul singer-songwriter Gregory Porter led a chorus of musicians including Mumford & Sons, Baaba Maal and The Very Best in a musical tribute to Prince on BBC's Jools Holland show this week, performing a moving version of Prince's classic track, Purple Rain.
Porter, who sites Prince as a significant influence on his music stated: "Prince was one of the musical masters, an extrordiary influence on so many different people. The blurring of the lines of genre, and the connection to the roots of blues, gospel, soul and jazz, and brining it to a contemporary audience is a large part of his genius. I would look to him personally, for adding Blues, Soul and Gospel to my Jazz."
Gregory Porter's Take Me To The Alley is released on 6 May. For more information on Gregory Porter please visit: www.gregoryporter.com
