David Yates, director of the last four Harry Potter films, has been chosen to oversee the movie adaptation of Stephen King's novel The Stand.
Warner Bros. have hired Yates and Potter writer Steve Cloves to bring King's story to the big screen, HitFlix reports.
The Stand tells the story of a post-apocalyptic world where a flu pandemic has killed 99% of the world's population.
The novel has previously been given the TV movie treatment, a 1994 mini-series that starred Gary Sinise, Molly Ringwald and Rob Lowe.
The Stand is scheduled for release in 2012.
