Hot Chip, Joanna Newsom and Cat Power are amongst the competitors for this year's Shortlist Music Prize in America, it has been announced.
The trio of acts will go head-to-head with Band Of Horses, Beirut, Tom Waits, Bonnie Prince Billy, Girl Talk, Regina Spektor, Spank Rock and Tom Waits for the award.
The ten albums have been whittled down from a provisional list of 60, selected by a panel of tastemakers from the world of music.
Franz Ferdinand, KT Tunstall, Panic At The Disco, Sufjan Stevens and members of Snow Patrol, The Killers and Flaming Lips are amongst the judges.
The Shortlist Music Prize is considered to be the American equivalent of the Mercury Music Prize in the UK.
