Hugh Laurie says it wasn't "so dusty" singing alongside Sir Tom Jones.
The British actor has turned his attentions to music of late, releasing his debut album Let Them Talk. The record features a host of his favourite New Orleans blues tracks, and some are collaborations with well known artists including Tom and Grammy Award-winning Dr. John.
Hugh was blown away by the superstar duets on his album.
"I'm playing with the most incredible musicians. I'm singing with Sir Tom Jones for Heaven's sake - that's not so dusty!" he laughed in an interview with BBC Breakfast.
"I was completely overwhelmed by Dr. John. After the recording, I went to my car and wept. To me he's a God."
Hugh has raised eyebrows by professing his love for blues music. However, the star - who is the highest paid actor on US television for his lead role in hit drama House – says his passion for the genre has always been burning inside him.
"I was captured [by the blues] as a small child. It was like a hand had reached out of the radio and grabbed me and it hasn't let go since. It's just music that encompasses every human emotion," he explained.
Hugh understands why people are cynical about his furore into music, following his huge success as an actor. However, he maintains that music has always been his first love.
Hugh hopes to continue inspiring audiences with his passion.
"I completely understand. I would have the same scepticism," he admitted. "I can't disown [my acting] – but this was always my first love.
"I absolutely love doing it but I understand my love for it isn't always sufficient to keeping audiences entertained!"
