Jamie Foxx has confirmed that he will play the starring role in Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained.
Foxx will play the titular freed slave in Tarantino's remake of the 1966 spaghetti western Django.
He told CNN: "I think, just to be able to work with Quentin Tarantino and Samuel L Jackson, Leonardo DiCaprio, and to be able to tell a story that needs to be told.
"If you're a fan of Inglourious Basterds, I mean, you know... It's just amazing. It should be amazing."
Will Smith and Luther's Idriss Elba were also considered for the part, but Foxx was always the director's first choice.
DiCaprio will play a plantation wife who hold's Django's wife captive.
Christoph Waltz, an Ocar-winning veteran of Tarantino's movies, will also star.
Django Unchained is released on Christmas Day 2012.
