After going through a laundry list of rumored actresses, the biopic of Janis Joplin is finally set to move forward starring Nina Arianda.
Arianda has been active in both films and on Broadway, winning the Tony Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Play for Venus in Fur. She had previously starred in the revival of Born Yesterday opposite Jim Belushi. In film, she has had supporting roles in such films as Midnight in Paris and Tower Heist; however, this will be her first film lead.

Directing will be Sean Durkin (Martha Marcy May Marlene) and produced by Peter Newman. Newman has the rights to the books Love, Janis and Piece of My Heart on which he will base the film.
Newman told Deadline Hollywood that he selected Arianda after seeing her on the stage, saying "I've never in my life seen an actress walk on a stage and convey the duality of vulnerability with overheated sexuality, which is what Janis was all about."
He also said that Arianda would do all her own singing. Production on Janis should start early next year.
