Jason Donovan says his old hits are "like sausage and mash".
The 40-year-old singer loves to perform his older songs, which include 'Too Many Broken Hearts' and his duet with Kylie Minogue 'Especially For You', because audiences find them reassuringly familiar.
Jason told BANG Showbiz: "Those songs have given me a comfortable life. I'm not going to forget the lyrics, put it that way. It's comforting isn't it? It's like eating sausage and mash – sometimes you need a good sausage. And I'm not Jewish, so I eat pork."
Although Jason enjoys performing his backcatalogue, he was reluctant to re-record some of his original hits for forthcoming album 'Let It Be Me', because it has a completely different sound to his 80s hits.
Jason – who has included his previous hits 'Sealed With a Kiss' and 'Rhythm in the Rain' on the LP - added: "I was a little dubious about putting tracks that I had recorded in the past on the album. But I felt because I'd done those songs with my old producers Stock, Aitken and Waterman they would benefit from the production values of this album, which is about producing late 50s, early 60s songs as they were originally recorded."
Jason will be performing selections from his back catalogue and material from 'Let It Be Me' when he goes on tour across the UK in November and December. 'Let It Be Me' is released on November 10.
