Jennifer Hudson has revealed that a trip to see her fiancé, David Otunga, saved her life.
The 30-year-old performer suffered a tragic loss three years ago when her mother and brother were shot to death in their Chicago home. Her seven-year-old nephew Julian was found dead three days later.
But the Dreamgirls star told Ebony magazine in their latest issue that a last minute decision to fly to see David in a World Wrestling Entertainment match in October 2008 was a life saving one.
"That's one of the things that saved my life," Jennifer told the publication. "Because I could have been home with my mum then."
"He wanted me to come out to Florida with him instead of going to Chicago. I flew out to see him; that's why I'm still here.
"I've never said that before, and I can't believe I just said that now. But I didn't know.
"He was like, 'I'm going to this wrestling thing and it's in Tampa. I'm going out there now, so you can come out there and see me versus going home.'"
It was during that trip that her mother, Darnell Donerson, 57, and her brother Jason, 29, were killed. The estranged husband of Jennifer's sister Julia, William Balfour, has been charged with the murders.
Jennifer and David are now parents to two-year-old toddler David Jr. The Weight Watchers spokesperson has recently denied rumours that the pair are no longer together and maintains that they still plan to get married.
