UNIVERSAL CITY, California — Jennifer Lawrence isn't hungry for a Golden Popcorn anymore. At Sunday night's 2012 MTV Movie Awards, Lawrence was on hand to accept her hardware for Best Female Performance for her fierce take on "Hunger Games" heroine Katniss Everdeen.
The competition in the coveted category was stiff. In her first-ever Movie Awards win, Lawrence beat out heavyweights like Kristen Wiig ("Bridesmaids"), MTV Trailblazer Emma Stone ("Crazy, Stupid, Love"), Emma Watson ("Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2") and Rooney Mara ("The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo").
Lawrence couldn't be in attendance — she's shooting a movie in Prague — but she addressed the win in a pre-taped message. "Thank you, MTV and all the fans, for this award," she said. "I want to thank [author] Suzanne Collins for creating such an iconic, powerful character in Katniss Everdeen. It's been such an honor to portray her and have audiences around the world embrace this movie."
While she appreciated the win, there was one thing she didn't appreciate: "I can't eat this," she joked of her popcorn-shaped prize.
But, Lawrence wasn't the only tribute taking home a Movie Award. Josh Hutcherson won Best Male Performance for playing Katniss' District 12 pal, Peeta Mellark. Like Lawrence, he beat out a "Harry Potter" star, the main wizard himself, Daniel Radcliffe, as well as Ryan Gosling for "Drive," Joseph Gordon-Levitt for "50/50" and Channing Tatum for "The Vow."
"The Hunger Games" tied with "Bridesmaids" for the most nominations at this year's show, including Best Cast, Best Fight and Best Kiss. It's also up for the night's big prize, Movie of the Year, where it faced off against "Bridesmaids," "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2," "The Help" and "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1."
