The Library in Islington presents a new acoustic night - The Break Sessions
Shoreditch's favourite indie band night - The Break (www.thebreakgig.com), presents The Break Sessions at The Library in Islington. Like its bigger brother The Break - The Break Sessions will continue to raise funds for Teenage Cancer Trust (www.teenagecancertrust.org,)
Starting on the 17th of December and returning to the Library every third Wednesday of the month, The Break Sessions will bring you the best in up-and coming acoustic music, featuring signed and newly signed artists from all over the UK.
'We've taken an aspect of The Break, mainly the upstairs acoustic lounge and brought it to the cosy surrounding of the newly renovated Library', Charlie Canavan, (co-organiser of The Break). The Library provides an ideal setting for the night and hopes to become a mid-week winter treat where you can kick back and enjoy a pint or two whilst the music warms your ears.
A raffle and auction will be held on the night giving the chance to win Fratellis tickets, as well as other great prizes including signed rock memorabilia. All proceeds will be donated to Teenage Cancer Trust.
December's line up features Jersey Budd, (www.myspace.com/jerseybuddmusic) Genuine optimism is hard to come by these days, but Jersey Budd is one man that's determined to put a bit of positivity back into pop. Standing on the shoulders of such giants as Dylan, Springsteen and Cat Stevens, this 24 year-old singer, songwriter and guitarist offers a genuine alternative to the current malaise, blowing away the cobwebs with a lethal combination of talent, charm and pure will.
Still a virtual unknown at this stage, the New Year offers Jersey a chance to shine. Forthcoming debut album 'Wonderlands' was recorded at the same time as fellow Leicester lads Kasabian were recording their third album, a stones throw away from Jersey's studio. Tom Meighan, 3 school years above Jersey, contributing backing vocals to first single 'She Came Back'. The album was mixed by Paul Stacey (Oasis, The Black Crowes) and mastered by Ian Cooper (Oasis, The Verve) both of whom were recommended to Jersey by Noel
Gallagher.
Aside from his expressive, powerful voice and knack for a good melody, it's Jersey's unique take on rock history that makes his music so compelling. On 'Shotgun Times' he updates southern rock with contemporary string and horn arrangements, while 'She Came Back' shimmers with the 60's finest harmonies, featuring the same handclaps and 'Sha-La-Las' that punctuated The Hollies' finest moments.
