Jim Carrey Teaches 'Burt Wonderstone' Co-Star The Magic Of Twitter

Jim Carrey and Steve Carell are dueling magicians in the new comedy "The Incredible Burt Wonderstone," but when it comes to social media, there's a clear winner among the pair.

Let's look at the numbers, shall we? Carell has a measly 1 million followers, 56 tweets and zero emoticons used. With more than 10 million followers and thousands of tweets, however, Carrey was the perfect person to help MTV News stage a Twitter-vention for Carell during Tuesday's "MTV First: The Incredible Burt Wonderstone."

"First of all, that life you have, get rid of it," Carrey quipped to Carell.

In Carell's defense, the funnyman admitted he dips his toes in the Twitterverse, but isn't quite swimming in it yet. The stars concluded this might be a good thing, considering how brutal tweeters can sometimes be.

Steve Carell never thought Jim Carrey would join "Burt Wonderstone."

"It is disconcerting at times," Carrey said. "I try to be really creative with it, but it really is like, no matter what you do — you could say the most outlandish thing that is, like, really political fire, you know, and you'll get kind of in an argument. But if you just do something like 'Smile and have a nice day!' a bunch of people will go, 'Screw you!' "

Perhaps that's what's keeping Carell from hanging out on Twitter more. "It could be the most innocuous thing: 'I had a tuna fish sandwich.' People will be like, 'Yeah, well, you're an idiot!' " he lamented.

And even though Carrey told that Twitter is "like another art form" to express himself, sometimes those fair-weather followers hurt his feelings too. "I do go through some physiological changes from tweet to tweet," he said. "I'll go, 'That's nice! What the hell? That's a nice thing! Oh, come on!' "

"The Incredible Burt Wonderstone" hits theaters Friday.
