Joe Strummer fans will be coming together on the 3rd of January 2009 at the Komedia in Brighton for a night of energy, passion and fundraising which will mark the sixth anniversary of the Clash front mans untimely death as well as ushering in the new year like a force ten gale.
The Brighton Strummer night is now a well established grass roots event and this year has joined forces with the organisers of the legendary Acton Town Hall firefighters/Strummer shows to make the south coast City the focal point for the celebration of Joe Strummers life and legacy.
Treading the boards on the 3rd January will be the ultimate Clash tribute act Take The 5th, the guvnors of punk Night of Treason and the fantastic Ramones celebration Havava A-Go-Go. Rudeboy 101 will be doffing the pork-pie to Joe's pre-Clash outfit The 101ers and The Boiler will be keeping the crowd tuned in to the sounds of Radio Clash.
All proceeds from the night and from the raffle will go to Strummerville – The Joe Strummer Foundation for New Music and there will be an auction for a customised Strummer-Special, Gibson guitar to raise money for Billy Braggs Jail Guitar Doors initiative – putting guitars into prisons in memory of Joe.
Geoff Martin, who works with Bragg on Jail Guitar Doors, said:
"No one should ever underestimate the lasting legacy of Joe Strummer and the Clash. Joe's spirit, energy and love of humanity is as relevant today as it ever was and that's why we keep the flame burning bright."
