John Lennon remembered 30 years on as 'Imagine' tops poll

As the world today remembers John Lennon on the 30th Anniversary of his murder outside his New York apartment there'll be a vigil in his home town of Liverpool and the day will also be marked in Srtawberry Fields in Central Park, New York.

The Beatle was shot in front of his wife Yoko Ono by Mark David Chapman who is still in prison for the killing.

In a statement - Yoko Ono said: "the world was lucky to have known him. We still learn so much from him today... "John, I love you!"

Mark David Chapman gunned down John Lennon outside his home at the Dakota building in New York after John and Yoko had left a recording session.

The former Beatle had just returned to public profile after 5 years in self-exile looking after his son Sean. He had just released his first album in 5 years, 'Double Fantasy' and was having his first hit song in years with '(Just Like) Starting Over'.

Music royalties organisation, the PRS, has compiled a list of the most popular Lennon tracks with Imagine top of the list.

The track has had 12 million plays in five years.
