Nick Jonas told his brothers he feared their group was a train in danger of "falling off the tracks".
The singer is joined in the Jonas Brothers by his siblings Kevin and Joe, who confirmed they are splitting yesterday.
Rumblings things weren't right came earlier this month when the trio cancelled their tour just two days before they were going on the road. It was Nick, 21, who initiated the talk and he admits feeling unhappy in the group for a long time.
"I came to the table with the guys just before we were prepping to leave for tour, and I shared my heart with them, my feelings," he said on TV show Good Morning America today. "In a nutshell, I said, 'Look, I feel like we've had some complications within the group for a long time without addressing them. I think this train will fall off the tracks without really getting real about some of the concerns and some of the limitations that we may feel as individuals in the group.' It was a tough conversation… It was the first time we really had that real conversation. It was a few days of working through it."
Kevin, 25, explained it took a while for the siblings to agree on the correct course of action. Now they have decided to end things, they all agree the time is right for them to go in separate directions. They are now "brothers" first and are looking forward to supporting each other's solo adventures. Joe, 24, has hinted he would like to move into acting, Nick has worked on music alone in the past and Kevin and his wife Danielle are expecting their first baby.
"At some point, we decided it was best to finish this and support each other and our own ventures down the way," Joe explained, after revealing the trio argued over everything from videos to their solo projects.
Jonas Brothers' biggest hits include Love Bug and Burnin' Up and they had been working on their fifth record. This has now been shelved, although Kevin revealed a surprise is still in store.
"The album will actually not be completed, but we will be doing something for our fans," he said. "They have travelled with us and been with us for so many years that we did not want to just leave without giving them back something. So what we're going to do is, we're going to release four unreleased songs from the album. The rest of the album will be never released."
