Billboard caught up with The Sound of Music star Julie Andrews, who opened up about her somewhat-surprising new friendship with Lady Gaga, her experience playing Maria von Trapp, her fondness for actor Christopher Plummer, and whether she would consider starring in a new Princess Diaries movie.
Andrews tells Billboard that she had never met Lady Gaga prior to this year's Oscars, but Gaga had called her 10 days before the award show to make sure Andrews wasn't upset with Gaga's upcoming Sound of Music performance.
"Of course I wasn't [upset]. I said, 'Just have a good time and enjoy it! Go for it!' She said she wanted to do it as a tribute to me, and she was singing everything in my key, to which I said, 'Why? It's so high!' And she said, 'Because I wanted to honor you,'" says Andrews.
She continues, "I've always been a fan [of Gaga] but she just knocked it out of the ballpark that night. I was thrilled by her and for her. I thought it was so lovely."
Andrews also discusses her role in The Princess Diaries films, and shares whether or not she would consider reprising her role if there were to be another movie following this summer's release of the new Princess Diaries book set 10 years later.
"You never can tell! If it is 10 years later maybe somebody else should embrace it now," she says, "But you never know!"
