Kanye West for Glastonbury

Kanye West will headline the Glastonbury Festival this summer.

The superstar rapper has been announced as Saturday night's main act for the British music event, and will perform on the Pyramid Stage to a field full of festival goers.

British newspaper The Sun reports Kanye has been in talks for months, finalising the deal last week after tense negotiations.

"We are thrilled to let you know we have the one and only Kanye West headlining Saturday night on the Pyramid stage!" organiser Emily Eavis excitedly tweeted.

Emily is the daughter of Glastonbury mastermind Michael, who created the festival in the 70s and hosts it on his farm.

Kanye follows in the footsteps of fellow hip-hop star Jay Z, who rocked the stage seven years ago.

"The negotiations were a nightmare and went on for a long time but eventually they got all the issues ironed out," an insider told The Sun.

"Kanye will headline on the Saturday night as it's the big one of the weekend."

He'll join Friday night headliners the Foo Fighters, with Sunday's main act still to be announced.

"Foo Fighters are signed up for the Friday and industry rumours suggest AC/DC could play Sunday.

"Kanye's sure to bring out surprise guests and put in extra production as he realises it's a prestigious slot. He knows all about Jay Z and Beyoncé's headline sets [there] and will want to top them," the source added.

While Kanye is yet to tweet about the news, he has excited fans by revealing he's recording new music.

"Finally back in the studio… starting my day by listening to Kendrick's new album!!! Thank you for the music and messaging!!!

"KENDRICK IS AN INSPIRATION. THANK YOU FOR THE VIBRATIONS AND THE SPIRIT. YOUR MEANING, MESSAGE AND EXECUTION ARE GIFTS TO THE WORLD (sic)," he posted.
