Frequent Gil Scott-Heron-sampler Kanye West performs at the poet and soul icon's memorial.
Gil Scott-Heron passed away last Friday and was hailed by the literary and music worlds as a pioneer in both fields.
Kanye West often used Scott-Heron's spoken word as samples in his music, most recently as the centerpiece of 'Lost In The World/Who Will Survive In America' on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.
The NYDailyNews reports that West performed a "tastefully censored" version of 'Lost In The World' at the memorial for Scott-Heron at Harlem's Riverside Church.
Gil's daughter Gia performed Bette Midler's 'The Rose' and his band performed his songs 'Better Days Ahead' and 'The Bottle'.
