Apparently, the throne got bigger. Jay-Z and Kanye West's proposed joint EP, Watch the Throne, has become a full-length project.
"We putting out a whole album now," he told' Sway Calloway. "We had done five [songs] so far, but then a few of them kind of were out there, and I put them on my album. Sorry, Jay. But we got some more, and we're going to the South of France at the end of the month to just record new ideas. But we'll probably be done with the album in a day."
Back in August, West announced the project via Twitter, and since then, the pair have appeared on G.O.O.D. Friday numbers like "So Appalled," "Monster" and the "Power" remix. Most assumed that material — at least "So Appalled" and "Monster" — would appear on their joint project. But an early track list for My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy had those songs on West's upcoming album instead.
During 'Ye's interview following the premiere of his short film "Runaway," he confirmed that the records would be on his solo set.
Watch the Throne would mark Jay-Z's third collaborative effort, following his mash-up collection with Linkin Park and his Best of Both Worlds project with R. Kelly. In regard to Kelly, West joked about Jay-Z's penchant for a certain type of collaborator when asked how he persuaded the Brooklyn lyricist to release the joint album.
"I don't know," he said. "I guess he likes Chicagoans a lot."
