The 33-year-old's tune H.A.M, which features Jay-Z, has remained in second position, behind Britney's Hold It Against Me.
And West took to his Twitter page to try and annoy the 29-year-old.
He wrote: 'Yo Britney, I'm really happy for you and I'mma let you be #1, but me and Jay-Z's single is one of the best songs of all time! LOL.'
Although Kanye later removed the tweet, Britney's manager still issued a response on her behalf.
He said: 'Thanks for 'letting' us be #1, much appreciated.'
The rapper later apologised, writing: 'On a serious note I'm truly happy for Avril Lavigne and Britney Spears. No hate in 2011...I thought LOL signified a joke.'
