The 31-year-old movie star is one of Hollywood’s most in-demand leading ladies, having made a name for herself in romantic comedies such as How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, You, Me and Dupree and Bride Wars.
Kate admits launching her career was tricky, despite being the daughter of esteemed actress Goldie Hawn and singer Bill Hudson. Goldie and Bill divorced when Kate was a baby, and the star grew up in Colorado, raised by her mother Goldie and her long-term boyfriend, actor Kurt Russell. Despite her showbiz roots, Kate insists her family made her learn about the industry the hard way to ensure she appreciated the business. When the actress won a small television role at the age of 16, her family cut her off financially.
“My parents were like, ‘We’re not paying for anything ever again!’ Ahahaha! My car would break down. Nothing. Everything in my life was broken in those early years,” she laughed in an interview with British newspaper The Times.
Despite not receiving financial support from her family, Kate appreciates the insight they gave her into the movie world. She learnt about the comedy genre from Goldie, and gained an understanding into the realm of action movies by observing Kurt’s career. She was impressed by both stars’ determination and dedication to the job.
“I grew up with a mother who made comedies and a father who made more serious action-type films and dramas. And to me their work ethic was similar. They treated it as work. And neither one felt like it took more or less, simply because it was drama or comedy,” she added.
