Kate Hudson praises inspiring mum Goldie Hawn

The Nine star, 31, told US Elle that her 64-year-old mother is the actress she admires most.

'I wouldn't be honest if I didn't say my mum,' she said when asked which actress she most admires.

'Apart from the fact that she's my mother, she's a brilliant comedian and a force as a producer. She paved the way for women to produce and star in their own films, and to balance that with being the matriarch of our family is really inspiring.'

The Bride Wars star – who appears on the front cover of the US magazine’s November issue – added that she has also learned a lot from her mum and her partner Kurt Russell, who raised her.

She said: 'My mum and dad had it figured out. They never worked at the same time and they were very conscious of making anywhere we went feel like home.'

Despite being well known for appearing in romantic comedies Hudson – who has a six-year-old son with ex-husband Black Crowes lead singer Chris Robinson – revealed that she would like to do more serious roles.

She said: 'The industry likes to box you in. I love making comedies, but I want to continue playing different characters.'

The actress recently appeared in the dark thriller The Killer Inside Me with Casey Affleck.

Talking about the movie, she said: 'It's disturbing. At one point, Casey had to spit on me, which was hard to take… There were moments during filming that freaked me out and sent shivers up my spine.'
