Kelly Clarkson says Because of You is "the most depressing" song she's ever written.
The ballad details problems between Kelly and her parents and some difficulties she had with their relationship.
The singer originally created the track for her first album, Thankful, but it was dismissed.
"My biggest song worldwide is Because of You, and you may as well grab a knife. That song really is the most depressing one I've ever written," she told British newspaper The Guardian. "I tried to get it on Thankful, and was laughed at and told I wasn't a good writer. So then I tried to get it on Breakaway – and the label saw the results, people responding to it, and allowed it to become a single. Then took credit for its success, of course."
Billboard ranked the 2005 hit as the seventh most successful pop song of the decade in 2009.
The star has battled with music executives about her image and sound ever since she won the first ever American Idol in 2002.
With her fifth and current album, Stronger, Kelly is finally happy with the music she is producing.
However, she hints that there may still have been a few artistic differences throughout its creation.
"This is the first record that my label and I have agreed on everything," she explained. There's one song that I was kinda, uh...but it's not a bad song, " she insists. "I'm crossing my fingers that there's no more drama."
