Kelly Clarkson wants her lyrics to reflect relationships where she felt "drunk the whole time".
The American singer is famed for her rock pop anthems, which have a strong female presence resounding through them.
Kelly is proud of the inspiring messages her tracks convey.
"I'm maybe overly empowering," she laughed in an interview with BBC Breakfast. "I like a feisty song. I like an anthem.
"Everyone has unfortunately been in a relationship where you're like 'Wow! Either I was drunk the whole time or was actually stupid.'"
When the newsreader quipped he felt "lectured" by the hard-hitting lyrics, Kelly chimed; "Don't do anything wrong and it won't feel like a lecture!"
Kelly revealed that the majority of her songs are about working relationships rather than personal ones.
The talented star has explained the philosophy behind her lyrics.
"Everybody has hardships and hurdles and a lot of that is involved with work for me, rather than relationships," she explained. "I write metaphorically because pop usually revolves around relationships."
Kelly rose to fame after winning the inaugural season of American Idol in 2002. The 29-year-old star feared the worst when entering the competition.
"Sometimes it feels like 20 years [since I won]" she smiled.
"We were afraid that it would be a giant joke, but I ended up being successful and the longevity has helped. I think that says more about the contestant, not the show. A lot of people just want to be famous. It's called YouTube!"
