Gary Ablett became a big Aussie rules star with his old AFL club, Geelong. He thought Kelly was joking when she asked him for his autograph when the pair met at Melbourne's Derby Day races over the weekend.
Kelly said to him, 'My godson thinks you're a hero. Could you write something for him?'
The godson is Lucas, seven, the son of Kelly's former nanny, Australian Melinda Varga, who is now living north of Melbourne.
Kelly, 26, was a special guest at the Melbourne races for the coffee company, Lavazza.
After the event, she went to dinner at the city's Nobu Japanese restaurant with Ablett and another Carlton star, Marc Murphy.
Kelly, who was Down Under for just one day, also said she was happy to make the whirlwind trip.
She said, 'I f*****g love Australia.'
