Lady Gaga's publicist has shot down reports suggesting the pop star has been cast as late British singer Cilla Black in a new biopic.
Dionne Warwick sparked the rumours at a Cannes Film Festival press conference on Friday (13May16), while announcing details of her new movie Dionne.
The Walk on By singer revealed the movie will chronicle her battles with her "nemesis" Black, before revealing the cast.
Gaga's name even appeared appeared alongside former Destiny's Child star LaToya Luckett, who will portray Warwick, on a promotional poster unveiled before the media at Cannes.
But the Poker Face star's camp insists Gaga will not be playing Cilla in the film.
"Lady Gaga is not attached and will not appear in the project," her publicist told Variety. "Reports of Gaga starring in the project are false."
Warwick's representatives have yet to comment on the drama.
The movie will be based on Warwick's 2010 autobiography My Life, As I See It.
Speaking at the press conference on Friday, Dionne admitted there was a period where she hated beloved singer Cilla, who died in Spain last year (15), explaining, "She stole my music, and I was not a very happy camper about that... Over the years, we grew up and understood each other. It all got cleared away."
Danny Glover is set to play Dionne's father Lee Warwick in the biopic, while Olympia Dukakis has been cast as German-American singer Marlene Dietrich, who Warwick has always described as her mentor.
Warwick added, "This is my 57th year in this business, and I have been asked, 'When are you gonna let us know about this? Tell us about that?' It's finally at the point where instead of what you think you know about Dionne Warwick, now you will know."
