Lana Del Rey has revealed that she was flying out to work with Lou Reed on her new album the day he died.
In a new interview with The Guardian, Del Rey explains that 'Brooklyn Baby', one of the songs from her Ultraviolence album, was written with Reed in mind.
The singer told The Guardian that she had flown out to meet Reed: "I took the red eye, touched down at 7am... and two minutes later he died."
Reed, who was probably best known as the lead singer of The Velvet Underground, died on 27 October, 2013, aged 71.
Del Rey also discussed her own personal struggles in the interview, saying: "I wish I was dead already" when discussing how a lot of her heroes - Amy Winehouse, Kurt Cobain - died young.
She continued: "I don't want to have to keep doing this. But I am... That's just how I feel. If it wasn't that way, then I wouldn't say it. I would be scared if I knew [death] was coming, but..."
When asked how long she got to enjoy the success of 'Video Games' before the critical and public backlash over her background and appearance began, she admitted: "I never felt any of the enjoyment. It was all bad, all of it."
It's hardly surprising then, that Del Rey's new album, Ultraviolence, is such a dark affair.
Ultraviolence is released in the UK on Monday (16 June) and in the US a day later - read our full track by track review PL.
