Lana Del Rey sings 'Blue Velvet' in a curious new commercial for fashion chain H&M.
The golden era hipster throwback singer and an ad director have unified their creative visions in a commercial for H&M, as mooted back in July.
Del Rey sings 'Blue Velvet', a song first made a hit in 1951 by Tony Bennett which in turn inspired the title of David Lynch's cult classic and its performance of the song by Isabella Rossellini, and which Lana Del Rey included on her debut album Born To Die.
Understandably, the ad is rather Lynchian, with dapper and deadpan characters floating through a noir-ish house which includes a hypnotist with a pocket watch, Del Rey clones and, finally, a midget pulling the plug on the singer.
It's rather apt that, if we believe Wikipedia, the first performance of the song (written by Bernie Wayne and Lee Morris) was by singer Ray Mason at a fashion show in 1950.
