Lana Del Rey says sleeping with men in the music industry didn't land her any record deals.
The 29-year-old Ultraviolence singer has sold over seven million albums internationally since her debut digital album was released in 2010.
Lana admits her new single F**ked My Way to the Top has multiple layers of meaning and largely addresses notions of how she became so successful.
"It's commentary, like, 'I know what you think of me,' and I'm alluding to that," she explained to Complex magazine.
"You know, I have slept with a lot of guys in the industry, but none of them helped me get my record deals."
Last month Lana confirmed she and fellow musician Barrie-James O'Neill ended their relationship after dating since 2011.
And the newly single songstress knows exactly what she's looking for in a romantic partner.
"I like a physical love. I like a hands-on love. I like a tangible, passionate love. For me, if it isn't physical, I'm not interested," she shared. "Everything I do feels so organised: touring, playing a show night after night with a couple months in between to make a record, and being in charge of all of it—mixing, mastering.
"Sometimes I meet people with a lot of fire and energy. Mentally, maybe we're not that similar. Telepathically, we're not on that same wavelength. If there's a physicality and a chemistry, that ends up winning for me every time because it's the opposite of what I have every day."
Lana feels very confident in her view of relationships and doesn't believe romance should be challenging.
"[The worst relationship advice I've ever received is] that love doesn't come easily and that relationships are supposed to be a struggle," she said. "Everything else is so hard; hopefully love is the one thing that is actually fun."
