Lenny Kravitz dodges questions about his sex life

And the 47-year-old rocker seems to regret telling the world in 2008 that he hadn't had sex in three years.

'We spent a whole two years talking about that,' Kravitz, who is currently promoting his new album Black And White America, tells US Elle.

'That's all people would bring up! But yes, I did do that.'

The Grammy Award-winning singer – who was once married to former The Cosby Show star Lisa Bonet – then asks the magazine’s reporter to move on to the next question.

When asked if celibacy is still his philosophy, Kravitz says: 'Not necessarily.'

However, he is considerably more open about his secret cross-dressing sessions as a child, when he used to sneak into his mum's wardrobe and try on her clothes.

'Well, let's be clear,' he says. 'Yes. This was the ’70s. When I looked at pictures of the musicians I loved – the Jackson 5, Sly Stone, Miles Davis – they wore really cool clothes.

'And in her closet were a lot of killer jackets and scarves and belts and knee-high boots. Nobody was around, and I'd put this stuff on and look in the mirror, like: 'Yeah, man'.'
