Lenny Kravitz says his new album is "completely happy".
The singer is currently promoting Black and White America, his latest musical offering. Despite not being in a relationship, he says he has never felt more content. This joy has translated into his album, which he recorded in the Bahamas.
"All my albums are positive, but there's usually at least one song with a sadness or deep darkness. But this one is completely happy. My life has never been better," he told USA Today. "I built a studio in the Bahamas and spent a year and a half basically in isolation, in this very natural, peaceful atmosphere."
Lenny has also revealed the title track on his album was inspired by US President Barack Obama. He was moved by Obama's famous speech in March 2008 and was glad he wasn't afraid to tackle the issue of racism.
He felt compelled to write a song in response to some people's negative views on Obama.
"It was a great validation, to hear someone who had perspective on both sides. Because I knew what he was talking about. Race in this country is still the elephant in the room that no one wants to discuss," he explained. "I was channel-surfing in the Bahamas one night and came across this documentary. It had all these people talking about President Obama - how they didn't approve of his being elected and wanted to take their country back, any way they could. I know that there's racism, but to hear people voice it in such a hateful way — I had to write a rebuttal."
