Liam Payne: Princess Kate makes me sweat

Liam Payne looked like he was "wiping his ass" when he met Britain's Duchess of Cambridge.

Last week the singer and his One Direction bandmates Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan had the honour of meeting the royal and her husband Prince William.

The boys were extremely nervous about speaking to the couple at the Royal Variety Performance in London - but 21-year-old Liam suffered the most.

"When we first met them, at the start it was so, so scary. My palms were sweating," he cringed to UK newspaper The Sun.

"When I was talking to Kate [Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge] I had to wipe them on the back of my trousers — but it looked like I was rubbing my ass!"

Luckily, he needn't have worried and the meeting went down very well. The boys even shared some football banter with William and pulled some of their usual cheeky tricks.

"Kate was doing a shot with [English comedian] Michael McIntyre but the camera was looking right at us," he continued.

"So Wills said, 'I'm sure we can get a couple of photo bombs in here, lads. Let's go for it.'"

Niall added: "We were pulling silly faces in the background."

One Direction are currently promoting their latest album Four and gearing up for their On the Road Again Tour, which kicks off in February next year. When they do get downtime, the band indulge their love of music by listening to their favourite artists.
"The one thing I've been listening to lately is the Ben Howard cover of Hideaway on the Radio 1 Live Lounge. I can't wait to get into his new stuff," Liam enthused.
