For reasons apparent only to him — maybe he's not feeling the New Orleans Pelicans name? — Lil Wayne is a Los Angeles Lakers fan ... and now, his loyalties have landed him in hot water with the NBA.
Or at least that's what Weezy claimed in a rather epic onstage rant (that just so happened to take place during NBA All-Star Weekend in Houston), when he told an audience at a Beats by Dre party that he'd been banned "from all NBA events" at the behest of the Miami Heat, then went on to lead the crowd in a "F--- the NBA" chant. Ever demure, Wayne also let be known that he supposedly had sex with Heat forward Chris Bosh's wife.
And while we can't verify that last claim, it seems that Wayne may have misspoken about his NBA ban. A spokesperson for the league told that he wasn't barred from attending any events during All-Star Weekend, and in an email to The Miami Herald, NBA senior VP Tim Frank said that any rumors of a league-wide ban were "not true."
MTV News' attempts to contact a spokesperson for the Miami Heat were unsuccessful by press time, as were attempts to contact a rep for Lil Wayne.
The bad blood between Wayne and the Heat began last week, when the rapper sat courtside for their game against the Lakers and — depending on whom you ask — was either kicked out or asked to leave. Weezy said police escorted him out of the American Airlines Arena because he was cheering for the Lake Show, while a spokesperson for the team told USA Today that he left of his own volition.
Wayne also had beef with the NBA (and the Oklahoma City Thunder) after he was denied courtside seats during the playoffs last year. A spokesperson for the team explained that Wayne requested tickets at the last minute, and there were simply no seats available because the game was sold out.
