Damien Rice's song looks set to claim the number one spot in this Sunday's chart, according to Music Week.
The track sold 68,800 copies in the first day of sales, putting it ahead of Coldplay's Paradise by 38,000 copies.
But Little Mix have apparently failed to top Matt Cardle's first day sales for When We Collide last year after he won the singing competition.
Little Mix will have to hang on for another week to be the crowned the Christmas number one but face stiff competition from Gareth Malone's Military Wives single Wherever You Are.
