In lieu of Lupe Fiasco's third and fourth studio albums, he goes punk with Japanese Cartoon.
Lupe Fiasco has been having a bad run of late, recording albums that will seemingly never see the light of day.
As far as we can deduce, his Lasers album was finished years ago but has had no release date scheduled, same for the postponed LupE.N.D./The Great American Rap Album project.
So what does this fount of creativity do? Release a punk EP called In The Jaws Of The Lords Of Death, under his real name (Wasalu Jaco), with a group called Japanese Cartoon, and singing in a British accent.
He recently spoke to Complex Magazine about the project. He initially denied he was in Japanese Cartoon, but now admitted "If Lupe Fiasco fails and Lasers never comes out, I have to do something - I still have to make music."
You can sample the tracks, with Lupe's annotations, here, and if you sign up at Japanese Cartoon's website you can get the EP for free.
As for release dates for Lasers and The Great American Rap Album? He said to Complex, "I can't tell you that. We're in a space where we're still negotiating and some stuff isn't meant for the public."
