What do you get when you combine a "Victorious" star's sugary sweet vocals, Mac Miller rhyming about puppy love and a Big Pun sample? Well, that would be Ariana Grande's new track, "The Way."
The finger-snapping throwback jam combines her ear for '90s-leaning R&B with Big Pun's 1998 smash "Still Not a Player." And according to Grande, it's only a taste of what she and Mac cooked up in the studio together.
"I'm super proud of it," the 19-year-old told about their team-up, the lead single off her album Daydreamin', set for release later this year. "We had been making music together and hanging out for a while and he's amazing and we make really great music together. I think a couple of the other songs we've done together are going to be on my album as well."
The easy, breezy vibe of the song makes it an early summer jam contender. And the lyrics are the perfect soundtrack to any sun-drenched summer flings. "It's about just like, loving somebody so much that you just can't describe it," she said. "Like it's just the best feeling in the world. The beginning phases of love when everything is so exciting and you just get butterflies. It's about that feeling."
And fans won't have to wait much longer to see Mac and Ariana's chemistry for themselves. A video for the track is set for release on Thursday, she confirmed. "It's Mac and I on a bed with a Polaroid camera taking pictures of each other and filming each other singing the song," she said of the visual, which she helped conceive. "And then performance shot is us in a big room with balloons with that footage projected onto us."
