If you bought a ticket for Madonna's tour, you received a certificate for a free copy of her album MDNA. Great deal unless you are one of the 20% of ticket holders who haven't redeemed your offer.
MusicWeek reports that 180,000 fans who bought tickets to Madonna's summer tour haven't bothered to redeem the free copy.
They quote a Live Nation source saying that of the 600,000 tickets sold, only 480,000 coupons for the album (either physical or digital) have been redeemed.
The source told Forbes that fans "come to a Madonna show to hear her do the old hits like Material Girl or Like a Virgin." Apparently the same thing happened with the most recent U2 album-and-ticket tour deal.
While this is being touted as disinterest in legacy artists' new albums, no consideration seems to be given to those fans who may have already bought the album before the tour deal was announced.
MDNA has reportedly sold 420,000 copies in the US already, surely a sizeable chunk of buyers being fans who would go see Madonna live.
