A RETIRED Cardinal in Chile has condemned Madonna for promoting "lustful" and "impure thoughts".
Roman Catholic Cardinal Jorge Medina launched the attack as the Material Girl arrived in the country last night on her Sticky and Sweet tour.
She performed in the capital Santiago to a 60,000-strong crowd at the National Stadium last night, wrapping up her visit with an extra date tonight.
But Cardinal Medina said she provoked a "crazy enthusiasm" that he disapproved of.
Addressing a mass for late dictator Augusto Pinochet, he said: "This woman comes here and in an incredibly shameless manner, she provokes a crazy enthusiasm, an enthusiasm of lust, lustful thoughts, impure thoughts."
This is not the first time Madonna has been criticised by the Catholic Church.
In 1990, when she took her Blonde Ambition tour to Rome, the then Pope, Pope John Paul II, called on fans to boycott the show which he said mixed Catholic themes with explicit sexual imagery.
Two years ago, she was condemned by the Vatican after she staged a mock crucifixion at a concert in the city's Olympic Stadium.
Then in September this year, performing in the Italian capital again for her Sticky and Sweet tour, she dedicated her song Like A Virgin to the Pope.
