The 26-year-old is voicing the lead role in Disney's latest animated movie and said she can understand her problems.
According to UK newspaper Daily Mirror, she said: 'I could really relate to Rapunzel. She's approaching her 18th birthday trapped and isolated in that tower.
'I started out in this business at 14, very young, and I grew up in a strange bubble of over-protection, much more sheltered than my friends. I understand that yearning for freedom, wanting to control your own life.
'But I also realise that I was lucky to have my family and strong support around me which kept me on the rails until I was old enough and confident enough to determine my own path.'
