The singer-and-actress released her first album in 1999, and made her debut on screen the following year. Despite her success and her marriage to singer Ryan Adams she has managed to remain out of the limelight. Mandy attributes this to her desire to be normal, and her dislike of all things typically associated with Hollywood.
“I’m boring first and foremost. I’m a boring homebody. You know what? I always like to think that I owe so much to my family. I love my parents; I have a really great strong support system in my family and always have,” she told Cover Media. “My parents sacrificed so much for me to be able to, you know, realise this dream that I had at a really young age, and that’s kept my feet on the ground. It’s sort of given me perspective that I’m lucky to have this job and not take it for granted. That’s what I guess I can attribute being boring to.”
The 26-year-old added she has always been good at separating her personal and professional life. She is currently promoting her latest movie, Disney animation Tangled. She voices the character of Rapunzel, and explained she has always found it easy to switch off from work.
“Being busy with work and also realising the delineation between working and still having a private life for yourself is important,” she added. “Finding that balance is really essential too in having some semblance of groundedness in your life.”
Tangled is released in the UK on January 28.
