The 40-year-old singer has had a hugely successful career spanning two decades, and remains one of the world’s most celebrated artists today, as well as making a triumphant foray into the word of cinema.
Mariah has dealt with highs and lows during her long-standing career, including a widely reported emotional breakdown, but she believes no-one will ever knock her down because she’s so strong and also has the ability to laugh at herself.
“Perhaps when other people grow up they become really jaded, but I have this really weird combination of having this sarcastic wit and also having innocence that I refuse to be penetrated,” she told British newspaper The Times.
“I get the joke and I don’t mind laughing about myself, but I love making music.”
Because Mariah feels in such a better place emotionally nowadays she does get frustrated when people try to discuss her past struggles. She feels it is time to move on, and would rather people concentrate on her incredible musical talent because she always struggles to exceed her artistic potential.
“I equate it with being in third grade and you’d fall over in the freaking sandbox and you get a grain of sand in your eye and for years afterwards people say: ‘Can we talk about that because it’s soooo interesting?’ Life is full of surprises. The most important thing is that I try to be my best creative self,” she added.
