Last week the singer finally confirmed she is expecting her first child after months of speculation. Mariah made the announcement with her husband rapper Nick Cannon, and they are both thrilled with the news.
The star has now opened up more about the new arrival, saying she will not dress the infant in the traditional baby color of pink if she has a daughter – despite her well known love of the girly hue.
“I’m not going to impose pink on a girl,” Mariah told talk show host Ellen DeGeneres.
The 41-year-old went on to explain the type of parent she will be. According to the international icon, being tough on the child early on in life might backfire so she plans to be lenient.
“Do you think I’m going to go that hard with it? That’s how you get the exact opposite,” she laughed.
Mariah also joked the baby doesn’t want people to be guessing if it is a boy or a girl. The star refuses to be drawn on what sex she thinks the baby is, telling Ellen it is unfair.
“Imagine if you’re a baby inside someone’s body. Do you really want somebody imposing their sex ideas on you? I’m just saying. Would you want them to be like, ‘It’s definitely a girl’? Would you?” she asked.
