Mariah Carey sparks pregnancy rumours

MARIAH CAREY sparked rumours she was expecting today when she refused to drink a sip of champagne live on TV.

The soul diva was given a glass of bubbly by daytime chat show host Ellen DeGeneres but didn't let a drop pass her lips.

Making the excuse that champagne is fattening and it was too early in the day for her to be drinking, she then pretended to take a sip.

Carey had already set tongues wagging about whether she was with child when she came onto the show in a loose shirt and jeans, a far cry from her usual figure-hugging dresses.

The singer, who recently celebrated her six-month wedding anniversary with husband Nick Cannon, came over all shy when her host teased her about being pregnant.

She said: "I can have some champagne - it's just fattening. I can't believe you did this to me Ellen! This is peer pressure."

When DeGeneres said they should toast her NOT being pregnant, Carey replied: "Oh my goodness! I can't believe it! "Why would we toast to that? How about the future and both our futures? Who knows what they hold?"

But when she reluctantly put the glass to her lips, DeGeneres cried: "You're pregnant!"

But Carey said: "Don't say that. My mother will be at home on the computer, like, 'What are you talking about?' We would let you know if we are going to have a family."
