Matthew Morrison is engaged.

The Glee actor has proposed to his girlfriend Renee Puente. The news was confirmed by Sir Elton John and his partner David Furnish on stage at their lavish White Tie and Tiara Ball in the UK.

"They are thrilled. It is the first marriage for them both. He loves her so much. The theme of the night was love, which is so appropriate," an insider told E! News.

After Elton shared the happy news with the crowd Coldplay star Chris Martin joined him on stage. The two singers then launched into a rendition of Elton's track Your Song, which they dedicated to Matthew and his fiancée.

The happy couple were all smiles when they arrived at the event, which is help annually to benefit Elton's AIDS foundation. Matthew wore a suit and bow tie, while Renee's choice of a blue embroidered gown showed off her giant engagement ring to perfection.

The pair have been together for around two years and those close to them fully approve of the relationship.

"Matt's friends absolutely adore Renee!" a source told Us Weekly. "They have never seen Matt happier than when he is with her. She is super supportive of his career and also works hard on her own. She is such a great girl and they are awesome together."

Matthew put people off the marriage scent in May when he claimed he wasn't ready to tie the knot. He did call Renee his soul mate though and has been clear that their relationship works so well because they support each other.

"The older you get, the more secure you are with yourself. You have to really know yourself before you can truly love someone," he explained. "I've got to experience many relationships and you get to know what you like and tolerate. I've had my heart broken and it turned me off relationships and trusting women for a long time, but you always overcome it.
