Michelle Shocked took her strange behavior of the last few weeks to a new level Thursday night, protesting the cancellation of her show at a Santa Cruz club after anti-gay comments during a San Francisco performance.
Shocked sat outside Moe's Alley wearing a white safety suit and with her mouth covered with duct tape that read "Silenced by Fear." She had told followers on Twitter to bring Sharpie pens to the protest and, when they approached, she pointed to the pen and then her safety suit where they could write messages.
Her original tweets first indicated there could be a crowd or trouble but she changed to just calling her appearance "art project."
I wonder if I'll be at Moe's Alley in Santa Cruz 7P March 28... Yeah, I think I might. Mebbe hire extra security?
Moe's in S Cruz tonight ok? Its an art project 'My Summer Vacation' I want your autograph. Bring Sharpie.
Owner Bill Welch of Moe's told the Associated Press "We will not be bashing Michelle Shocked. Rather we will celebrate music, diversity and send some healing Santa Cruz energy her way." He hired the LBGT band Beaver Fever and the Frootie Flavors to play the date instead of Shocked.
Earlier in the week, she had tweeted "I want my old job back!!!" to which someone replied "We want the old Michelle back. (I think!)"
