MIDGE URE has said that Noel Gallagher's decision to quit Oasis was "admirable".
Guitarist Noel walked away from the group on Friday after a bust-up with his brother Liam backstage at the Rock en Seine festival in Paris, France.
Ultravox frontman Ure said it took a lot of courage for Gallagher to quit the band.
Speaking to the Daily Record, he said: "I respect Noel Gallagher for being big enough to stand up and say enough is enough. That sparring brotherly love-hate relationship is what drove Oasis on and kept the engine running - maybe it got to the point that it was so painful. You can't go on stage with someone pushing all your buttons all the time and can't go on and pretend it doesn't affect you.
"The writing may well have been on the wall. It was maybe not that surprising. After all, when Alan McGee first saw them and signed them to his label, they had a fight that night. I don't know the guys but I imagine that's how it was.
"Liam seems quite a difficult character to get along with and I don't think it matters about the details of how it fell apart. It's a very personal thing between brothers as to what's going on. When you are family, things come and go."
