Former Midnight Oil singer Peter Garrett looks set to re-enter politics with a strong indication he is being groomed for a seat within the Labor Party.
Garrett is no newcomer to politics. He was leader of the Australian Conservation Foundation from 1989 to 1993 and in 1984 ran for the senate for the Nuclear Disarmament Party.
Garrett joined the International Board of Greenpeace in 1993 and once again took up the role of President of the Australian Conservation Foundation in 1998. In 2003, he was awarded the Order of Australia by Queen Elizabeth II.
Australia's alternative Prime Minister Mark Latham today described Garrett as potentially a 'fantastic parliamentarian' if he chooses to re-enter politics. Mr Latham said he would 'welcome Garrett to the Labor Party team in Canberra' if he decided to run.
Midnight Oil announced their break-up in December 2002 after Garrett quit the band he founded to pursue environmental and social issues.document.write(unescape("
