The 40-year-old actress insists there have been times when she didn’t like the way she looked, but has now learned to accept her body. She admits it can be tough when you are getting older in Hollywood and many other stars go to great lengths to preserve their looks. However, Minnie isn’t willing to try to delay the signs of ageing in a bid to play younger characters.
“You’ve got to somehow stay dignified and committed. All that chasing youth and plastic surgery means you can’t be playing the parts you should be because you’re trying to be 32,” she said in an interview with British newspaper The Daily Mail. “When you see that somebody’s face has been pulled and tweaked, that is somebody who is frightened of where they are. I think I’m finally happy with me as I am, thank you very much.”
Minnie’s latest big screen outing is in Conviction, which also stars Hilary Swank and Sam Rockwell. In the movie, Minnie plays the best friend of Hilary’s character, who persuades her pal to study law to help her brother who has been wrongly jailed for murder.
She was thrilled to land the role and felt a strong connection to her feisty character.
“It was a part made in heaven,” she explained. “She’s strong and direct and bang up for it, a fantastic woman. I like playing roles like that.”
