Nadine Coyle is hoping to prove her vocal range on her debut solo album.
The Girls Aloud singer, who spends most of her time living in Los Angeles, is working with Robbie Williams' former songwriting partner Guy Chambers to create some moving pop ballads.
The album will be competing for chart success with her bandmate Cheryl Cole's first solo outing '3 Words', which went to Number 1 in the UK album charts.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "Guy Chambers doesn't just work with anyone. He's incredibly selective about who he agrees to collaborate with and, to be frank, he's the most expensive in the business to hire. He's seen something in Nadine he really admires."
She has also lined up publicist to the stars Barbara Charone, who works with Madonna and Christina Aguilera, to help her launch her solo career.
Earlier this month, Nadine insisted there was no rivalry between her and Cheryl.
She said: "I don't see it that way at all. It's not about me versus Cheryl."
