New Order continue minus Hook

Manchester band New Order will carry on without legendary bassist Peter Hook.

Hook recently announced in a radio interview that the band had split, surprising fellow band members Bernard Sumner and Stephen Morris.

The band, which formed from the ashes of post punk act Joy Division, had enjoyed a successful revival with albums Get Ready and Waiting for the Sirens Call.

In a joint statement, Sumner and Morris said: "After 30 years in a band together we are very disappointed that Hooky has decided to go to the press and announce unilaterally that New Order have split up.

"We would have hoped that he could have approached us personally first."

It added: "He does not speak for all the band, therefore we can only assume he no longer wants to be a part of New Order."

The statement concluded: "Whatever happens musically or otherwise, New Order have not split up, they continue to exist."

Hook said in May that the group had split - claiming to have kept silent about the break-up for some time.
